I've been with Travis since their second album "The Man Who" in They are one of the few Britpop bands that I like. Their music is ordinarily ordinary for ordinary people. They always come up with something good for each album. Overall, "Where You Stand" should deliver satisfaction to most Travis fans who have stuck with them for the entire ride.
I actually was dreading listening to "Where You Stand" because I didn't like their last three albums that Warning Sign - Travis - Where You Stand (CDr and it has been five years since their last album. But, to my surprise, the guys sound refreshed and revitalized. I am looking forward to their next album whenever that may be. Travis has the capacity to become a classic band, much like their contemporaries Coldplay, Snow Patrol, Radiohead.
Interestingly, I found several songs reminding me of other artists here such as the rhythm section to "Another Guy" sounding reminiscent of Smashing Pumpkins' "", or the guitar riff on "Warning Sign" reminding me of Lynyrd Skynyrd's "Sweet Home Alabama". I also thought "Boxes" was a different metaphorical take on Malvina Reynolds' "Little Boxes" theme musically completely different, but thematically similar--you could play them side by side, Album), really. The bottom line is this: Travis seem like they're back on track here, coming up with some of their most memorable songs in years.
I don't get the negative reviewers who are saying 'boring' or 'I was a fan, but not now'. It's easily four stars. Only a couple of weak tracks, that's all. But it has many good songs.
And I'm glad Travis is back together and making music again. I don't want them to stress out and quit making music. Other bands we like: U2Coldplayerasurepet shop boys, Gogol bordello.
We are loyal and grateful fans and once we like these bands, we buy all of their albums. I'm sure there are many bands out there that continue to make great music but only get remembered for their early stuff.
It's sad how some people like an artist and then dispose of them because they have too many expectations or are so hard to please. I pity those unhappy, sad people. Better than the previous release, but nothing to get too excited about. They are a mellow band, but always had a decent amount of somewhat lively songs to break things up at least on their early releases. Wish there were others like "Moving" on this CD, but there were only a few that were OK and then the rest were just plain "sleepers".
Maybe I have not given this album enough time to grow on me, but frankly it's too dull to sit through more than twice without skipping songs out of boredom. I thoroughly enjoyed this album! I haven't enjoyed a Travis album like this since The Invisible Band.
The songs are creative, original sounding, thoughtful, and catchy. It's difficult for me to pick one favorite, so I'll just say the most stand-out tracks are "A Different Room" and "New Shoes". One odd thing about the album was the lack of a hidden track. I seem to recall one on each of the other Travis albums. Regardless, this is still a very good release, and I hope that the band continues to release such quality albums as this one. Pretty good album. It's definitely more laid back than their other albums.
Reminds me a lot of "The Boy with No Name". I absolutely love Travis. This is a less popular album but still very enjoyable. I have now been enjoying this album MP3 download for about a week now. Great Travis music as usual and I am very glad they decided to do another album. I like each song for what it is and each is great, but my favorite is still the one that stood out most to me from the beginning--"Warning Sign. One person found this helpful. This new album returns Travis to making good music once again Classic Travis sound and melodies.
Thumbs up! See all reviews. Top reviews from other countries. There's something comforting about a Travis album. A sense of familiarity that allows you to relax, sit back, and enjoy the music.
You could argue that a band that has stayed largely unchanged in terms of style is a band standing still, but when the melodies and arrangements are Warning Sign - Travis - Where You Stand (CDr beautiful, I think any Travis fan would be disappointed if it didn't sound "just like Travis". Like an old friend you haven't seen in a while, you want them to be as good as you remember. Thankfully, Travis have grown old gracefully, and this album is proof that you can't have too much of a good thing.
Saw them live in Aberdeen in November and they were awesome as ever.
