I owned this album on vinyl "back in the day". London Calling and Combat Rock define a time in my life and also a huge influence on my music listening.
This has been remastered and my ears are a bit older. This still sounds awesome and brings me back in time. A must have for any 80's music collection. Just outstanding! Still one of the best double albums of all-time! Maybe the greatest album to come out in The sound quality is excellent and I love the cover art on the sleeve as well. Just a great album from start to finish, a classic, and a must-have for any rock vinyl record collector.
I like their music. The hits anyway. British punk-pop. I still get the impression there was a heavy record company management influence on this "act".
Rather than artists making music. Played the new album. It jumps on the same track, at the same places!! Keeping it, though, as it could be a pressing issue. All other tracks are fine. Except Brand New Cadillac, which is an awful song. The worst ever by The Clash. Needed another cd copy for the car so thought it'd give me an opportunity to review this album again. Firstly, I'm no spring chicken - I bought this double album with my paper-round money in London Calling - The Clash - Kamikaze Clampdown (Live In Tokyo 1982) (CD) 79 no it's not the greatest record of the 80s Rolling Stone.
I was also lucky to see The Clash on two occasions 78 in Dunfermline and 80 in Dundee - absolutely tremendous, mindblowing. If you want truly London Calling - The Clash - Kamikaze Clampdown (Live In Tokyo 1982) (CD) look no further than the debut - which perfectly sums up the angst of 70s Britain.
I remember playing The Clash in my room in 77 and being utterly amazed by it - it still retains my love to this day and is my favourite album of all time.
Report abuse. For me The Clash were and are the complete band. They were the archetypal rebel band. Their lyrics were to the point and succinct and explained what was going on in Britain at the time.
Their lyrics were true then and now. There is no other band that could embrace, ska, rock, rockabilly, reggae, blues, soul, funk and most other genres of music like The Clash have been able to do.
They could turn on the intensity and energy, then roll it back to a more sedate sound. What they also achieved was a commentary on the dysfunctional society at the time. The Clash gave the kids at the time a chance to stick two fingers up to the establishment and to live their lives. A really solid album, I had foolishly written The Class off a few years ago as I didn't like the singing all that much, but they cover a lot of ground and they do it very well: lots of punk, rockabilly, some country-esque moments - if you imagine Social Distortion style 'Cow Punk', then you're in the right ball park - there's much more on the album than just the title track, London Calling - The Clash - Kamikaze Clampdown (Live In Tokyo 1982) (CD).
Iconic album post punk, vinyl was good quality and well packed. Back to music essential must have in any record collection. Raw and edgy band? But punk and ska was a powerful ingredient. Customers who bought this item also bought. Page 1 of 1 Start over Page 1 of 1. Combat Rock Remastered.

Give 'Em Enough Rope, for all of its many attributes, was essentially a holding pattern for the Clash, but the double-album London Calling is a remarkable leap forward, incorporating the punk aesthetic into rock & roll mythology and roots music.
