Sure, some bands go way out in left field,Metallica did a complete turn around from thrash to power metal after the black album, and sunk straight to the bottom with St.
Anger, which was uninspired drivel. At least the Dead Eye has immense talent and technical proficiency, and other than the noticable lack of guitar solos,I find this disc to be very intriguing. In the case of the Haunted, change is good,if you want the old stuff pop in one of the older cds and rock on. So if you have an open mind and are a true metal head, buy, listen,READ the lyrics, and enjoy. Rock on. This album is the first I've picked up from "The Haunted," and I'm eager to get all the rest of them now.
There is alot of balance to this cd, there's screaming, singing, some great deathy riffs, this is some of the most inspired metal to come from Sweden in awhile.
My favorite band for many years has been Misery Loves Co. There's alot of groove riffs in here too It's like a classical music movement, a song is supposed to go loud, quiet, a mix, all in all this is a great collection of metal songs! From some of the other reviews Album) see alot of the same moaning that I see every time any metal band changes something from their previous records. In In My Shadow - Libido* - Killing Some Dead Time (CD comes to mind.
Give it up guys. Different is good. This album works for me, I really dig the direction The Haunted went on this record, however by looking at the reviews below it is clear that not everyone feels the same way I do.
If you liked rEVOLVEr, than I don't see any reason Album) you wouldn't like this record considering the seeds were planted for further experimentation with their sound on songs like Abysmal and Burnt to a Shell. If your vision of what The Haunted should sound like is One Kill Wonder my personal favorite, different review than I truly can see the validity in your complaints, as this is quite the departure from the violent madness showcased on that CD.
I for one liked the last album but didn't love it so I really am having a hard time explaining why I am digging this CD so much. I guess I didn't have high expectations if any at all of this CD, and hearing the more rock oriented pieces worked in with the brutal thrash attack just caught me off guard and like I said earlier, it just works for me.
I don't think Peter Dolving is a great vocalist but his clean and screamed vocals fit the mold and mood of the music here perfectly. I am also convinced that the guitarists for this band who basically created the melo-thrash riff are probably getting tired of rehashing the same old same old each time out, so I respect them having the gonads to experiment and throw us some curveballs on this one.
Fresh ideas are never a bad thing. Yes, they have changed their style, yes, this album has it's flaws, but it is still The Haunted and I think if you give it a chance you can get into it as well, it is definately one of my faves from If not, well, I guess it's a matter of taste I totally agree with the review below me.
I considered these guys up there with my favorites like Amon Amarth, Arch Enemy, Soilwork, Dart Tranquility, and many many more i could name, but they fell of the charts on this cd.
