The self-titled debut album from The Rings had everything going for it: great production by the band, management by New England promotion guy Al Perryputting them in the same envious position held by the Carsrepresentation by a guy who knew all the right radio people, and excellent songwriting by everyone in the group.
Maybe the problem with selling the group was their lack of image. The album cover, a pink hula hoop descending on a swimming pool, may not have been as exciting as the rings of Saturn, and the photos of drummer Matt Thurber and the rest of the group are so plain that they mislead.
The band is closer to Devo in style, but the Rings ' eclectic pop was far more commercial. From the sounds of the last track "Third Generation" and its psychedelic Harry Belafonte riff, to the magnetism of the first track, "Opposites Attract," this band had everything going for it.
Blues Classical Country. It is made I Need Strange - The Rings - The Rings (Vinyl look like an old leather book, weathered with age and knowledge. Inside you'll find a single piece for a very large Tolkien map of Middle Earth.

The albums are excellent, LP sleeves are black paper with white rice paper on the inside. You will be pleased with the quality of the sound and the LP's. They did not spend much money advertising this set. I found out about it quite late and ended up paying a mint to get the first set.
Get it while you can. They are limited. This finishes the collection and I love it!! The 70's's, I loved movie composers like John William, John Barry and Jerry Goldsmith they composed the music to some of my favorite movies.
The Lord of the Rings movies has but Howard Shore as one of my favorites. If you love the movies and you are a soundtrack fan like me then you'll love, the must have, Lord of the Rings: Return of the King the complete recording. The much anticipated final installment of the vinyl release of the Lord of The Rings Complete Soundtrack.
This is probably the best of the set in my opinion. Just like the other two releases, this set is mastered and mixed perfectly. Quiet and thick green vinyl with no imperfections.
Liner notes and packaging is bar-non for a release such as this. A buy worth it for anyone who loves symphonic soundtracks or even the franchise, either way one will not be disappointed. I have been waiting for the third installment of the complete recordings for a while. I thought I could not afford it due to the price. However, when the price dropped I purchased it immediately. The music, as in all of the The Lord of the Rings, is breathtaking. This is one massive collection of records, then again it was the longest movie, especially the extended edition.
Great sound quality and the whole collection is put together very well. I recommend having the other two collections as well. The color is kinda a lame looking and every record pops. A poor pressing all around the box is cheaply made. For the price its not really worth it. And they made 8k of each one. So its not that rare. But if your a LOTR vinyl nerd get it, if you dont care about the poor pressing.
They could've made it allot better. After several months, finally in my hands the complete collection of The Lord of the Rings score. Today arrived The Return of the King and the cycle of a wonderful edition by Rhino and the amazing trip that Howard Shore gives us is over.
It is a must for anyone who loves vinyl because without a doubt it is one of the best soundtracks ever made. One ring to rule them all. The durability is not the best for the case. See all reviews. Depending on disc type, manufacturing quality, and recording process, CD-Rs can be inferior to factory pressed CDs.
Unfortunately, with some titles out-of-print, CD-Rs may be the only available option. Import and used copies are occasionally available but these options can be pricy. Overall, "Lord of the Rings" offers an interesting listen that is dramatic and multicolored. The music is deserving of a five-star rating, but because it's a CD-R reproduction I can only give it three stars.
I am a huge fan of J. Tolkien's three volume masterwork Lord of the Rings, the recent film adaptation of the books, and also progressive rock.
It should come as no surprise then that this recording by Swedish multi-instrumentalist Bo Hansson would appeal to me on a number of levels - it is in fact, a personal favorite. As it is presented on this instrumental album, Bo creates a spacey, warm vibe that reflects his own personal interpretation of the books. Whether or not this album successfully approximates the mood of the three books is ultimately left up to individual listener - I personally did not have any a priori assumptions and simply listened to the excellent music.
On the album, Bo plays Hammond organ, electric guitar, very early LP of the moog synthesizer, and bass and is joined by Rune Carlsson on drums, Sten Bergman on flute, and Gunnar Bergsten on saxophone.
The I Need Strange - The Rings - The Rings (Vinyl is largely spacey and reflective, but there are some occasionally heavier sections where slightly distorted electric guitar is used.
The heavy moments are far and few between however, and the music overwhelmingly conveys the mood of a grey and snowy winter afternoon. Bo's moog work is instrumental in creating this atmosphere and its warm sounds are utilized to the fullest extent throughout this album.
The remastering of the CD is pretty good and features excellent sound quality along with decent liner notes and pictures of Bo and I think recording engineer Anders Lind. All in all, this is an excellent album that is recommended to all prog fans that like things on the mellow side. With my now mature ears I appreciate what Hansson was about in these generally lovely vignettes. This is another one that falls into " I thought I'd never hear it again" category.
If I play this disc as often as I did the record, I could wear it out. I am going to order " magicians hat. That was the one he released next. Great cd mix. One person found this helpful. This is an awesome album. A little used noisy but no scratch or skip. I love this CD! For anyone who read The Trilogy, it will likely be more enjoyable as you relate to to story as you listen.
Had this cd before as a LP so was very happy when able to get the CD really like it. See all reviews. Top reviews from other countries. It never ceases to amaze me why Bo Hansson's wonderful musical interpretation of JRR Tolkien's heroic masterpiece has never been used in any relevant movie?
We all know he was inspired to record the material purely through his love of the book, but I feel his music is as relevant as Howard Shore's contribution to Peter Jackson's incredible movie trilogy. Bo Hansson's version may not have the majestic grandeur of Howard Shore's orchestral work - I mean everything about the trilogy is of epic scale, but what Bo captures is that eerie sense of foreboding.
Listen to 'Fog on the Barrow Downs' - though sparse in content, LP, just organ, muted guitar and simplistic affects like howling wolves and a strange but continuous reverberating sound of unknown origin - and you'll get a sense of how I Need Strange - The Rings - The Rings (Vinyl had the ability to create an unpleasant feel of apprehension, where all is not good on Middle Earth.
Originally released in - then re-released in on the Charisma label - which then put it under the genre of progressive music. It has been said of the similarities to Camel's instrumental work - such as 'The Snow Goose' I can see where they're coming from, but what we really have, is a unique, intense and atmospheric set of instrumental compositions, where the organ and other keyboard variants Bo's instrument of choice are prominent throughout.
Additionally, it came with a superb photo of JRR Tolkien sitting among the roots of trees in a forest maybe Mirkwood - and Finally, some thirty five odd years later the year of Bo's sad passing I acquired the CD, where my fascination with the great man's musical take - on such a classic book, is as passionate as ever. As a suggestion, when they re-release the film trilogy - yet again, which they will do, why don't they - as a fitting tribute, use elements of Bo Hansson's work in the soundtrack?
It'll work for me. And may I suggest, the next time you open up the book, just put on the late musicians 'totally relevant to the cause' musical contribution. It will add - immensely, to the reading pleasure. To this day, I still feel this music is the perfect accompaniment to Tolkien's visionary tale.
