Unfortunately, Keith Relf's introductions to most of the numbers have been deleted. What is the purpose of that? Secondly, the studio sketches disc 2 is a mere 25 minutes long. Some of this was previously released on the now out-of-print 'Cumular Limit' CD. This disc sounds good too, e. There is some new material here too - notably a new version of 'Drinking Muddy Water,' 'Avron's Eyes' an instrumental version of 'Avron Knows' - which is also hereand an instrumental version of 'Spanish Blood.

As the song is credited solely to Jimmy Page here, was this done purely to avoid having to give Relf songwriting credit for the lyrics? Of course, this song evolved into Led Zeppelin's 'Tangerine' which was also credited solely to Jimmy Pageand I wonder if this was done to avoid a lawsuit with Relf's estate.

It's a surprise that Jim McCarty and Chris Dreja agreed to these deletions, but since Jimmy Page owns the masters, it was either his way or no release at all, I guess.

It's a great package, and I recommend it to all Yardbirds fans, but it could have been more than it is, which is a shame. Verified Purchase. We get the Anderson Theater show as close to the way it was meant to be heard as possible! No more bullfighting jeers, no more clinking glasses The sounds is more pristine and clear, as well, making this a really great release.

All that alone is worth 4 stars. Here's why I didn't go with 5 stars: Caress Me Baby - The Yardbirds - The Yardbirds (2) (CD). Removing Relf's intros.

This seems to be typical of official live releases from the era, especially when Jimmy Page is behind them. Why he has a problem with the talking between songs which I've always loved I'll never know, but he does compare Led Zeppelin official live releases with unofficial live releases [bootlegs] and you'll see what I mean. The studio sketches are good, but not as good as they could have been. Knowing That I'm Losing You is just the instrumental track Relf's vocals have been completely removed.

I hate that. But they should have been included here, as well. Also, Spanish Blood track 2 is missing the second verse, which is an If it's because Page gets a bit uncomfortable around cuss words which I have to say Instead, the entire verse was just I recommend this for Yardbirds fans and Led Zeppelin completists.

Good for what it is, but not all that it could have been! The Yardbirds were chugging along albeit losing some steam by The loss of Jeff Beck had taken its toll on the band but Jimmy Page's enthusiasm and ardor were unmistakable and he really gets some credit for holding things together and moving things along.

By the group was booked to play a long string of concerts in America where their popularity was actually still quite strong. During that time the band worked on several new musical compositions and reworked others and so some time was devoted to the recording studio.

What they produced, although said to be not as polished as earlier studio work something which I dispute, by the way was directed toward an album that was never consummated or completed. The results have trickled out over the years on bootlegs and curious compilations including this one. But NONE of these is in any way definitive as other reviewers here have most emphatically and clearly stated.

What he has produced is commendable and most welcome; well worth the buying I must say. What is lacking is why a star is indeed missing here.

The live set is as described elsewhere, a vast improvement on previous releases, albeit edited to omit Caress Me Baby - The Yardbirds - The Yardbirds (2) (CD) banter and a few other things that enhance the live experience. There are a few other live recordings by the group: some better than others. A further compilation including some of these might also be of value to collectors and fans.

  1. Album made up of two CD's, which when ripped, came up on the Microsoft database as an Eric Clapton title and a live Yardbirds gig recorded in mono on very 60's equipment. I paid £ (one penny) for this and so was not dissapointed, but check out the hundreds of Yardbirds CD's out /5(5).

Philip Cohen 2 December Dear Yardbirds fans, As one of the consumers who bought the 2-CD set from Jimmy Page's website, I can tell you that the momentary silent gap near the end of "Over Under Sideways Down" (on the live disc) is present on all copies, and it is far from certain that Jimmy Page will issue a corrected pressing.
